The White Ribbon Alliance and its 14 National Alliances celebrated International Women’s Day by boldly taking action in support of women all over the world.

White Ribbon Alliance (literally) scaled mountains, spoke truth to power, amplified the voices of those on the frontline of providing health care in extremely challenging situations and more.

Here’s a brief snapshot of what WRA National Alliances accomplished on International Women’s Day 2017:

A team from White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood in Tanzania began their ascent to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro to tell the whole world that they will not tolerate the rise of maternal mortality in their country. Their demand for increased funding for CEmONC services is being shouted at the top of the highest mountains because CEmONC saves lives.

Over 1,800 people participated in JOICFP’s White Ribbon Run to raise awareness for maternal mortality. JOICFP is a Japan-based international NGO active in the field of population, sexual and reproductive health and rights that works to improve the health status of women, men and young people all over the world. JOICFP is a proud member of the international White Ribbon Alliance Network.

The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood India formally launched the “What Women Want” campaign, which highlights the voices of more than 100,00 women and what quality health care means to them.

WRA Uganda engaged with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development to call upon leaders to “Act Now to End Teenage Pregnancy.” It was standing room only for discussions around antenatal care, teenage pregnancy, nutrition, and self care.

And, White Ribbon Alliance Global Secretariat spent part of International Women’s Day being interviewed on global maternal health by ThinkProgress in Washington, DC.

However you chose to mark the day, everyone at White Ribbon Alliance hopes you remember that by working together we can ensure that every woman, everywhere has access to the health care she needs for a safe and healthy pregnancy and childbirth.
